What medium do you use?<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I primarily use oil paint. Occasionally I do watercolor sketches, especially when traveling. My older work is acrylic or watercolor, as I began using oil paints in 2023. A friend of mine gave me a case of them from an estate sale, and I got hooked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How long does it take you to complete a painting? <\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The average time is about 3 hours, although larger pieces tend to take longer. Some of my favorite small sketches only take ~1 hour, while others can take 8 hours or more. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Do you do all of your painting outside?<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

With landscapes, I prefer to complete as much of the painting as possible on site. Occasionally, I run out of time or daylight before it is finished, and need to do another 1 or 2 hours of work at home. My non-landscapes are done entirely indoors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How do you find your locations?<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I have spent many years exploring this local area, and know MANY beautiful, tucked-away places that I would like to sit and paint. Sometimes, they’re not so hidden, and I find myself pulling off the highway on the way out of town (looking at you, Lake Crescent!). Whenever I see something so pretty or fascinating that I want to sit and stare at it for hours, I try to paint it and that capture that. The great thing about the West End is that nearly any marked place to stop, or even unmarked logging roads, leads to something worth capturing in art— wherever you go, there’s always a hidden gem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How do you price your work?<\/strong><\/em> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

As I am still learning and growing as an artist, my current work is significantly underpriced compared to the amount of time I put into it. However, I do want it to be accessible. I usually conceive two prices: the amount it would take for me to be comfortable parting with the work, and the amount I can imagine someone wanting to pay for it, and I find a comfortable middle ground. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
